Frequently Asked Questions
Sizing & Fit
Our bias-cut slips, tops, skirts, and pants allow the fabric to softly skim and mould to the body rather than fit rigidly. This means many customers comfortably wear their usual size, even if they typically sit between sizes. In most styles, the fit can accommodate approximately half a size up or down from the labelled size.
Styles that are not cut on the bias are generally true to size. Please refer to our size chart for detailed international size conversions.
If you prefer a closer fit through the waist or hips, we generally suggest sizing down. If you prefer a softer drape or have a fuller bust, sizing up may feel more comfortable.
If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to personally recommend a size via email or video consultation.
For made-to-order pieces, we can often customise proportions to help minimise alterations after purchase. This may include split sizing, additional length, adjusted necklines, sleeve or cuff changes, and other small fit refinements. Please email us to discuss custom options.
Yes - bias-cut silk is intentionally designed to move with the body rather than sit stiffly against it. It softly drapes over curves and creates a fluid silhouette that feels elegant, effortless, and comfortable to wear.
For customers who prefer less shaping through the hips, we can slightly soften the silhouette with a more subtle A-line shape so the bias falls from the hip rather than hugging closely through the lower body. This adjustment can be requested across sizes and is incorporated into our pattern grading for size 18 and above.
Yes - many styles can be worn with supportive undergarments depending on your preference.
The tie-back styles including the Nina Top, Tie Back Slip Top, Nixie Top, and Cortina can be styled over or around a strapless bra.
For lower-back styles such as the LWD, we generally recommend booby tape or a low-back solution such as the Spanx Plunge Bodysuit for the cleanest finish.
The standard garment length for each piece is detailed on the individual product page.
Many made-to-order styles can also be customised in length to better suit your height or preferred styling. Please email us prior to ordering if you would like guidance.
We generally recommend seamless underwear in a nude tone closest to your skin colour.
Most pieces are designed to sit on the true waist, so high-waisted underwear is often the most flattering option as it sits at the narrowest part of the body and helps minimise visible lines through the hips.
All fabrics are carefully selected and tested for wearability. Lighter tones may require seamless nude undergarments depending on personal preference, however many styles are designed with enough weight and structure to avoid transparency.

Fabric & Quality
We work primarily with silk because of its natural movement, breathability, softness, and longevity. It drapes beautifully on the body and feels luxurious to wear while remaining timeless beyond a single occasion.
Our silk qualities have been carefully refined and sourced over many years of designing and manufacturing.
We intentionally select heavier silk weights for bridal and occasionwear to achieve a more luxurious drape, opacity, and longevity. Many bridal pieces also feature silk lining for additional comfort and structure.
Every fabric is chosen with movement, feel, finish, and wearability in mind.
Each piece is thoughtfully produced in limited quantities with a strong focus on craftsmanship, fit, and finish. Our garments are designed to feel refined, effortless, and enduring in quality.
Natural silk may develop soft creasing through wear and travel, however this is part of the fabric’s relaxed elegance. Most creases release naturally when hung or lightly steamed.
Silk is more durable than many people expect when cared for gently.
We generally recommend:
- Hand washing in cool or lukewarm water below 30°C
- Using a delicate silk or wool detergent
- Avoiding bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh detergents
- Never wringing or twisting the fabric
- Rolling garments in a towel to remove excess moisture
- Hanging or laying flat to dry away from direct sunlight
- Steaming or ironing inside out on a low silk setting if needed
Some structured or specialty pieces may still be best suited to professional dry cleaning depending on fabrication and construction.
Silk naturally benefits from less frequent washing than synthetic fabrics, and gentle care will help preserve its softness, lustre, and longevity for many years.
Bridal & Occasionwear
Yes - all Lilia Cass bridal pieces are intentionally designed to be re-worn for future events, anniversaries, dinners, holidays, and special occasions rather than worn once and stored away.
Absolutely. Many customers pair dresses with silk blouses, scarves, and layering pieces to create a more personal bridal look.
We consider capsule styling with every new design to ensure pieces integrate beautifully into an evolving wardrobe.
Yes - we recommend working with a seamstress who specialises in bridal or formalwear and has experience handling silk fabrics.
The same applies for dry cleaning and pressing. Delicate fabrics benefit greatly from experienced care.
For made-to-order bridal pieces, we schedule a cut date, which marks the first stage of manufacturing your garment.
Sizing adjustments can usually be made up until this cut date.
We also understand many brides may be changing shape through fitness, training, or general wedding preparation. Our garments are thoughtfully constructed so alterations through the side seams can be completed relatively easily if small adjustments are needed after receiving your piece.
We recommend ordering as early as possible, particularly for weddings or international deliveries. This allows time for fit guidance, shipping, and styling decisions without unnecessary pressure.
For shorter timelines, we also offer a rush service on selected pieces. Please email us for availability and timelines.
